ME 492 is a project-based class. Full meetings of the class are on Mondays and those full meetings correspond to the lectures listed on this page. Wednesday class times are usually held as separate meetings with the student team and their faculty adviser.

Guest Lecture
Our guest lecturer, Jill Murfin, had to cancel because of icy roads. Jill will present to the class during ME 493 next term.
Jill is a Technical Program Manager at Nike. Prior to that she held a series increasing technical roles at Intel, culminating in Engineering Manager. Jill will make a presentation about the importance of teamwork and managing your career after graduating

Next Assignment
Due on 23 February 2018 28 February 2018: Summarize concept generation and evaluation, with a focus on analysis of
design alternatives. This is the Concept Analysis Assignment.
For this assignment, techniques described in ME 491 Lecture 4 and in this lecture (#4) should be applied to your design.
Week 3 - Market Requirement Review & Project Planning
Learning Objectives
At the end of this week, students should be able to
- Create product-focused requirement statements (from Customer/Client/Market needs)
- Create a requirements matrix
- Create a Work Breakdown Structure
- Provide simple descriptions of a Gantt chart
- Construct a Gantt Chart for their project.
- Identify major deliverables for their project
- List all requirements of the final version of the Project Contract
Week 2 - Effective Meetings
PSU is closed on Monday, 15 January 2018, for the Martin Luther King holiday. Since we won't have a regular class meeting, students teams are encouraged to read the meeting toolbox notes. Teams will have their weekly meeting with their faculty coach.
The team should be focusing their effort on the team contract and project contract. The project contract requires working with the sponsor to define the customer requirements, which were discussed in lecture 1.
Week 1 - Introduction
In ME 492 you will work in teams that were assigned at the end of ME 491. Your primary activity in ME 492 and ME 493 is to complete a major engineering design project.
