Dr. Miguel Andres Figliozzi main teaching and research areas are transportation and logistics systems modeling. His current research work deals with:
- Transit Bus Fleet Management and Optimization Models
- An Integrated Multimodal Transportation, Air Quality, and Livability Corridor Study
- Modeling and Analysis of Commercial Electric Vehicle Fleets
- The Impact of Weather on Bicycle Ridership
- The usage of GPS truck data to evaluate and develop freight corridor performance measures
- The study of climate change impacts on transportation infrastructure
- Green fleet replacement models
- Bus "bunching" minimization in public transportation operations
- The impact of congestion on vehicle routing
- The development of algorithms for time-dependent-stochastic routing
- Statewide freight modeling improvements
- The development of volume –speed functions for traffic assignment models
- The impact of traffic flows on emissions
Dr. Figliozzi joined Portland State University in August 2007. His previous academic appointment was at the University of Sydney. Dr. Figliozzi works in partnership with local, regional, state, and federal transportation agencies, organizations, and private companies. He is a member of the Transportation Research Board Network Modeling Committee, Transportation and Logistics Committee, and Intermodal Terminal Design Committee.
