I am an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Portland State University (PSU). I also have a courtesy appointment with PSU's Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Prior to my employment at PSU and from 2013 to 2017, I was a Research Scientist at Intel Labs in Santa Clara, CA.

I received my Ph.D. and M.S degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University in 2011 and 2007, respectively. My Ph.D. advisor was Professor Edward Knightly. From 2011 to 2013, I was a Post-doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University, working with Professor Mung Chiang. I received my B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2005. I am a recipient of the 2020 NSF CAREER award, 2023-2025 David E. Wedge Vision Professorship award, 2025 IEEE AIIoT Best Paper award (IoT Architectures and Protocol track), and 2026 IEEE AIIoT Best Paper award (AI Tools and Applications track). I hold a General amateur radio license and my callsign is KK7VCV.

To Prospective Students: I am recruiting PhD students preferably for a Fall start. I am particularly interested in motivated students with research interests in AI/ML, virtual reality, computer networks, and/or wireless networks. A strong background in systems implementation and/or theoretical research is a plus. Interested students should indicate my name in their application package, particularly in their personal statement.
