ME 491 Prototype display due on 7 November 2017
Make a display and brief report of your current design of the device for the design competition. The display includes your device and any physical subsytems in their current state of development. Your group can continue to work on your device. However, when you are not actively working on the device, your workbench should be organized in a way that the device and subsystems are clearly visible. In other words, a pile of disorganized parts will get a low prototype grade.
The report is a brief, two-page maximum (excluding appendices) summary of the design concept. The report should include
-
A one- or two-paragraph description of the key mechanisms and strategy used in the system. What is the primary (current) conceptual plan for moving the minifigure? The strategy should clearly state how your team plans to maximize the points earned in the design competition. For example, are you going to emphasize speed without worrying about weight? What is your a strategy for automation?
-
A list of the key challenges or engineering tasks that the group is actively working on. There should be some physical evidence of at least half of the tasks on the list. In other words, don't just make a list of what you are going to do.
- Roles and contributions of team members
- List the project assignments for each team member
- List the key accomplishments/contributions of each team member
- An appendix that includes
- A detailed schematic of the functional decomposition of your device
- Hand sketches of key subsystems
- Data from prototype experiments
Submit one copy of this document to the D2L dropbox
Leave one hard copy of this document on the workbench next to your physical prototype.
Consult the grading rubric for the prototype report to understand how the reports will be evaluated.
