LPTSL (Loss Profiles Transport Sub-Layer)
In a mobile environment it is impossible to control the movement
of users. Thus, it is possible that several users with open multimedia
connections may congregate in one cell. This will cause the requested bandwidth
to far exceed the available bandwidth in the cell. In order to accomodate
all users, our solution requires multimedia connections to include special
flags within the data stream that delineate logical segments of data (e.g.,
one segment in a jpeg video is one frame). Thus, the MING can judiciously
discard frames for each connection (e.g., discard frames randomly uniformly
for audio while discard frames in a burst for video) in order to ensure
that all the connections receive some minimal quality of service. A description
is contained in our paper.
