In this activity, small groups will speculate where the following atuhors stand on certain issues.

The authors and their works are:

• Diamond - "Collapse - How societies Choose to Fail or Succeed"
• Morris - "Confuse - How Jared Diamond fails to convince"
• Smith - "Capitalism and Collapse - contradictions ..."

For each statement below, speculate on the position of each author. Use your knowledge of the author's writings to base your opinions. Give evidence (quotes, page numbers, ideas) from the writings to justify your view.

1. The government should force stringent caps on green house gas emissions.
2. The endangered species act should be revoked.
3. Better technology can increase food production to accommodate population growth.
4. Taxes should be reduced on fuel production and supply.
5. The U.S. should have a policy of encouraging Capitalist and Democratic economies.
