When reviewers review a book they may evaluate it along
many different dimensions.
- Does the book inform the reader?
- Is the book a good piece of literature?
- Is the book worth reading?
- Does it have something important to say?
- Is the book entertaining?
- Is the plot interesting?
- Are the characters believable?
- Does it reflect the issues of today?
- Is it historically accurate?
Read the following 2 reviews:

- Review by Natasha Walter The Guardian
Work in groups of two.
- For each review do the following
- List the dimensions that the author evaluates the book along.
- Does the author like the book? Does she recommend it?
- What side of the debate do you think the reviewer is on.
Does she agree with the FDA's opinion, or does she agree
with the "13 Myths" position?
- Are there any arguments used by the reviewer that you agree with?
That you disagree with? Tell me why.
- On what issues do both reviews agree? (If any)
- On what issues do the reviews disagree?
- Does the review leave out important missing information?
- Create written answers to these questions. Put your names
of group members on report, and e-mail it to Professor Sheard.
When you have done. Report to the whole mentor session. Feel free to
read additional reviews of the book to help inform your opinion.
