Printers, Terminals and Assignments

In this assignment you will get to set up a serial terminal and a printer. This is an individual (not group) assignment.

• Hook up a terminal to one of the serial ports on the machine. Wire it to the machine and set it up so you can login. When you are done, remove all the changes to system configuration files.
• Hook up a printer and set up lpd to print to it. If you have a 386 box you will want to use the parallel printer (the Panasonic dot matrix). Everybody else will want to set up a serial printer (the HP Laserjet 1).

Turn in the following, printed on the printer you installed:

• A typescript of you logged into the serial port. Run the following commands: 'hostname', 'who am i', 'w' and 'stty -a' (or something equivalent)
• A hardcopy of your log entry for installing and deinstalling the terminal and printer. (If you do not have this online, staple a copy to the printout)
