Making Graphs from Data Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to gather some data from the web. Create
an Excel spreadsheet, and create a graph that displays your data in the most
advantageous way. Your data should graph some value across one or more dimensions.
Possible dimensions include time (I.e. every year for many years), geography
(economic data across many different states), etc. Your dimension must have
at least 5 elements. More than 5 is better.
First you should review the tour of data on the web to refresh your self
of the many kinds of data available. You are not limited to data on the tour.
You may find your own data.
- Decide what you want to do. What kind of data, across what dimensions?
- Find some data.
- Create your own excel spread sheet.
- Populate it with the data (at least 5 elements, more than 5 is better).
- Create a graph to display your data. Choose the correct type of graph to display your data
in a way that makes it useful.
- Label your graph (see reading).
- Use color in your graph.
- Create a word document.
- Import (or paste) your graph into the word document.
- Write a few sentence caption in the word document describing what you've done.
- The word document should be a single page.
- Be sure your document has a title and author (your name) on it.
- Bring this to class on Monday, March 2, 2009.
