Approaches to fitting probability distributions

• Remember, in all cases it is useful to:

  • Understand the behavior of the process
  • Understand the behavior of the data (EDA)

• Transformation

  • Transform variables to normality
  • Fit normal distribution

• Fitting appropriate distribution

  • Transformation may still be required
  • Determine best fit among selected distributions
