ell, we all found features missing in CHP 2.0. Our links got tangled,
we couldn't see the frames we were working on, and when it came to
creating forms for our website, we were stuck setting up scripts and
CGIs to do the job. That changed when Claris released CHP 3.0 in
January 1998. For detailed features, check out Claris' official
description of CHP 3.0.
Reviews: Macweek
(Dec 1.),
Some new features (this is based on my interpretation of all the
info that has come my way):
- New FileMaker Pro 4.0 <-> Claris Home Page 3.0
connection. This is probably the most exciting new feature.
Integration between these two excellent products will make it easy
to publish databases on the Web. This includes both an Assistant
to create database connected sites, and templetes for common
database connected sites, such as shopping carts and product
catalogs. Support for CDML (Claris Dynamic Markup Language) allows
custom control over the database connection. See Claris'
News for more details.
Site Related Features:
- New Site Editor.See your entire site at a glance, move
files around, and check links. Also, search and replace text
globally across your entire site.
- New Site Styles and Templates. There are a number of
different "themes" which include related graphical elements. They
can be applied through the Site Assistant to give your site a
consistant look. A larger collection of templates are also
included.
- Improved Site
Upload. In addition to the Site Editor mentioned
above, the consolidation feature has been improved. Now, a wider
selection of media types are consolidated including Java, GIF,
JPEG and QuickTime files.
Page Editing Features:
- Improved Layout. New options for text wrap.
- Improved Table
Editing. Multiple table cells can be selected and
changed at the same time. More ways of manipulating tables. Cell
backgrounds can be set from the Table Editor without manually
typing in HTML.
- Improved Frame
Editing. Frames are displayed in Edit and Preview
modes; no more running to the browser to see how your new frame
layout looks.
- New Assistants. A la ClarisWorks, there are eight
Assistants which take you step by step through the process of
creating some HTMl elements. As far as I can tell from Claris'
release, there is a Table Assistant, a Frame Assistant (replacing
the current Frame Wizard perhaps?), a Site Assitant (there may be
more than one of these), and a FileMaker Pro Connection Assistant.
That's less than eight, but no word on what the others may
be..
