Message from the Chair of Electrical Engineering,
Dr. Rolf Schaumann

To: Potential Graduate Students

The faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering welcomes your interest in pursuing graduate studies in electrical and computer engineering at Portland State University. We have prepared this document to help you make your decision and to answer many of the questions you may have about our graduate program. In addition to general information and details of the choices available to a student, this document introduces you to our faculty and their areas of interest. Our department is active in research: In the past two years, the faculty received more than $3.7 million in research and equipment grants and published more than 120 papers in conference proceedings and technical journals.

The Department of Electrical Engineering's close ties to Oregon's high-technology industry, located in and around Portland, enable both faculty and students to participate in many challenging and exciting joint research programs. In addition, PSU's flexible class schedules enable students to pursue their graduate degrees while working full or part time.

We have provided several telephone numbers should you need more information or want to contact an individual professor; for details about the graduate program requirements, please consult the graduate catalog available from our department.

I wish you success in your academic career and hope to be able to welcome you to our department.
