CSE 410/510 – Advanced Multimedia Networking Seminar
Winter 2016
This course is a seminar course on recent advances in multimedia networking. Students are expected to be somewhat familiar with basic multimedia concepts such as JPEG, MPEG, video streaming, and image adaptation mechanisms. Furthermore, students are expected to know basic networking concepts such as TCP/IP. Terms like congestion control should not be completely foreign to you.
Course Objectives: Upon completing the course, the student will:
be familiar with multimedia systems design and implementation;
be familiar with systems support issues for multimedia applications;
be familiar with low-power video sensor technologies and their implementation
The course consists of two main parts (themes):
Part 1 - Student presentations (more on next page)
In the first part of the course will consist of students presenting papers from the literature (with my guidance during the class). Each student will be responsible for presenting one or more paper groups (depending upon how many people sign up for the course). The current list of paper groups can be found on the web site.
Part 2 – Research projects
Depending upon how many people are signed up for the course, we will work (as a whole) on an interesting research project with each student contributing a portion of the overall system. It is my expectation that the student will spend 6-12 hours per week working on the project pieces. There will be no other assignments in the class. As a result of this, the quality and depth of research in the project will be the primary driver of the grade.
