Engineering Notebooks.

Engineering notebooks are used in industry to record what work was done in case the engineer leaves the project and his/her replacement needs to quickly get up to speed as well as when work was done for patent and copyright purposes. In order to be of use in establishing when work was done, Engineering Notebooks must meet some minimum standard of credibility (see The Engineering Notebook). Students will maintain an "Engineering Notebook" with an entry for each day something pertaining to the Capstone course or project was worked on. The instructor will randomly collect Engineering Notebooks at the weekly status meetings, briefly review them, and add the date and time of the review and possibly some comments. Additionally, at the end of the project, each student's Engineering Notebook will be collected and evaluated by the Instructor (Notebooks will be returned after grades are assigned).
