GNU's Not Unix!

Because the compress utility is covered by patents (US 4,464,650 and 4,558,302), we cannot use it; it is not free software. Therefore, most GNU software is packed using the new gzip compression program. Source code is available on most sites distributing GNU software.

The FSF sells tapes, floppies and CD-ROMS of GNU software, an order form can be found in the latest GNU's Bulletin. By ordering tapes from the FSF you help us continue to develop more free software. Media revenues are our primary source of support. Donations to FSF are deductible on US tax returns.

Here is a list of the FTP sites which have GNU software.
