Our architecture is a three-level hierarchy: at the lowest level are the mobile users who communicate with mobile support stations (one to a cell). These MSSs (or base stations) function only at the network layer. The third layer consists of gateways (MINGs) that manage all transport connections for the mobile users. The MINGs act as gateways between the mobile environment and the high-speed networks. All transport connections between a mobile user and a service-provider are split in two: one from the mobile to the MING and another from the MING to the service-provider. This design allows us to define separate QOS parameters: one set for the mobile domain and another for the high-speed network domain. To find out more about our research, please see our papers.
