Portland Spirit Dinner Cruise

A  printer friendly (.pdf) version of the Dinner Cruise is available here

The AEWG and Portland State University are pleased to announce a dinner cruise for the evening of August 5, 2003.  The dinner will be the conference's award banquet.

We will be cruising on the "Willamette Star," one of the popular cruise ships in the Portland Spirit line.

For the evening cruise, the AEWG will have exclusive use of the Willamette Star.  The Willamette Star has been refurbished as of May, you can see over 100 images of the progress on the the lines web page.  The Williamette Star features two decks, the main deck has the dinning facilities, the upper deck includes a bar (indoors) and observation area (outdoors).

The cruise will begin in downtown Portland, within about a mile of the conference hotel.  The cruise route is along the Willamette river running south and including many of Portland's bridges and the picturesque river region directly south of Portland.

The atmosphere is ideal for site seeing and conversation. This event should prove a wonderful contrast to the AEWG's usual stimulating technical program.

A reminder that Donna will be hosting an Icebreaker for conference guests on Morning of Tuesday, Aug 5 (while the rest of us are at the conference).

Post Conference Excursion

Thursday, August 7, 2003

We have enough interest in trying to put together an after conference excursion. The excursion would consist of exclusively AEWG participants traveling through the Columbia River Gorge (this is a beautiful river valley including some steep rock formations).  Stops at Multnomah Falls, Hood River (popular with wind surfers), perhaps Bonneville Dam and of course beautiful Mt. Hood (Timberline Lodge) are planned. This excursion will likely take 8 hours. The cost (excluding meals) will be approximately $55 per person. There are restaurants at the stops. Donna will need to know a couple of weeks before the conference. You can indicate this on your conference registration form or contact Donna directly.

Donna is recommending this package

please let her know what you think by mid July

description below provided by tour guide

The cost of $60 per person includes bottled water, snacks, and Gorge Guides. The cost does NOT include tour guide gratuity and I suggest $1-$2/person if they have a great time.

8-hour tour of the Mt. Hood – Columbia River Gorge region. The group will leave downtown Portland at 9am and return by 5pm.  They will ride in a 24-passenger mini-bus. There will be a tour guide/host in addition to the bus driver.  The group will stop at Multnomah Falls Lodge for lunch.  This is NOT included in the cost per person.  The tour guide will take the group on short waterfall hikes during the day. The group will stop at the Bonneville Dam Visitor Center and anywhere else they desire.  I suggest Timberline Lodge.
