Richard A. Nordstrom

Mechanical and Materials Engineering

Materials Research Laboratory

Courses:

Courses are taught mostly on a by-arrangement basis at the graduate level. Whenever possible, these courses are aimed at directly supporting research activities or augmenting student-faculty research programs. As these courses are planned on student's interest/need, if you are a student and want these courses scheduled, please email me and state that fact (nordsr@pdx.edu). There is a minimum required student level to give these courses.

Research Interests:

  • Acoustic Emission
  • Testing and Measurements in Materials Testing
  • Specific topics in Ultrasonics
  • Composite Testing

In Pioneer Square, downtown Portland, pondering the question of just why students nicknamed me Dr. Department Store.

So What else does a part time Research Faculty do?

In this case, Richard Nordstrom is a worldwide application specialist for Acoustic Emission.  this includes various degrees of application development and Professional level )post-doctoral) training on the Acoustic Emission Method. I have been doing on-site, on-demand application and training work in AE for about 2 decades, in about 20 countries and more than 25 of the Fortune 500 have used his services at one time.

There is a web-streamed lecture intended for newcomers to Acoustic Emission:

More of these streams can be viewed from colleagues of Dr. Nordstrom in the field of Acoustic Emission at http://aewg.org/videostreams.htm.  These video streams were made at Portland State University during AEWG-46.
