Civil and environmental engineers plan, design, and manage the construction and operation of public and private facilities, including highways and transportation systems, power plants, buildings, dams, and water and wastewater treatment facilities. The goals of the programs at Portland State University are to provide high-quality undergraduate and graduate courses to prepare students for practice in government, industry, and private consulting; to provide a well-rounded education in the major discipline areas of civil engineering; to offer program flexibility allowing students to select one or more major discipline areas for specialization; to maintain an overall emphasis on design; and to foster interaction with the local industrial community.
