Statement of Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy is that students learn best with clear class structure, outlined expectations, and a stimulating class environment. I provide a detailed syllabus for each class that outlines the course objectives and topics, highlights key assignments, and lists resources. Students that invest in my courses are usually successful. I believe in moderate flexibility in expectations, but only to the extent that the student earns that flexibility. I strive to be fair, both in the classroom and on grading. Creating a stimulating classroom can be a challenge, but I intentionally present material in a variety of formats and often used group work, team projects, and student interaction to enhance learning. Lastly, I try to incorporate real world examples and guest lectures to further emphasize theories. My goal is to foster student appreciation for learning and an understanding of key concepts in each of my courses. Lastly, I make it a point to listen to suggestions for improvement from my colleagues and students (see below).
