STREET- Simulating Transportation for Realistic Engineering Education and Training

This module has been developed by Henry Liu, David Levinson, and Chen-Fu Liao at the University of Minnesota as part of the STREET- Simulating Transportation for Realistic Engineering Education and Training - funded by the National Science Foundation. The focus of the STREET project is "to develop web-based simulation modules to improve instruction in the Introduction to Transportation Engineering course that is a standard part of undergraduate civil engineering programs."

SAND: Simulator and Analyst of Network Design

From the STREET website: Simulator and Analyst of Network Design (SAND) was developed to enhance the understanding of transportation planning and network design in a classroom environment. In reality, transportation network design involves a complicated process by which metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) make changes to a network under given budgetary, regulatory, and/or geographical constraints to achieve various objectives. By incorporating simplified land use-network structure and travel demand forecasting models in a simulation environment, SAND visualizes changes to a given network and the resultant traffic patterns, and allows users to evaluate the impact of these changes in terms of Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) of travel.

Some additional documentation/help can be found in this online textbook that is being created.

CE454 Lab Assignment

You will need to work in teams, but you will each need to prepare a report this time. Report due Wednesday Nov 25 by 5PM (in Monsere's CEE office mailbox or by email to rolando@pdx.edu). This software is web-based, you can do this lab from any where.

  1. Start the street JAVA-based application
  2. Read the help file first.
  3. Complete the homework assignment. As instructed summarize the answers to 1, 2a, 2b, 2c, and 2d in a proposal to funding agency. Please target 3 pages.
