11/29 Delays Solved The delayed output from
the Warp tutorial was caused by propagation delays. Increase
your clock periods dramatically and all of the problems with
delayed outputs should disappear.
11/28 Yet another Project
3 Tip A student recently set
me the additional following tip:
The Cypress Warp2 compiler (Galaxy) does not work correctly when
run from computers in the Sun Lab. A .jed file is not generated.
Unix gives the message "Broken Pipe." Galaxy runs fine
from computers in the Circuits Lab.
11/28 Another Project 3 Tip A student wrote me with
the following information. The bottom line is do not use the
Sparc 5 systems for the Warp program.
After working with the CAT, I found out that the computers in
the SUN lab have had an operating system upgrade to x.7 the computers
in the electronics lab have not had this upgrade (and I believe
that the computer in your cube was not upgraded either) In addition,
I found the Ultra 10 systems in the SUN lab do work. In conclusion,
only the Spark 5 systems in the SUN lab do not call up the text
editor.
11/28 Project 3 Tip A student asked:
I have a question about Project 3. In my design, I developed
Boolean equations for L and N. I used
these to produce I. When I put these equations into the Warp
compiler using the 16V8, it complained about
the L and N terms in my I equation. Is there a particular syntax
for doing this?
Answer:
Yes, label the outputs that are also used as inputs as INOUT
bits.
11/23 Project 3 Tip I received this tip from
a student that may help you get the Warp tutorial working:
I found out that if you type in what galaxy says that it is doing,
then it compiles... For example, the galaxy screen says "
> Running application: /pkgs/warp2+/bin/warp -o1 -d
> C16V8 -p PALC16V8-7PC -b andor.vhd"
Well, nothing seemed to happen, so I tried typing in the application
at the x-terminal command prompt exactly like it wrote it, and
it compiled.
11/16 Project Tip Do not put spaces in
your project name or it will cause problems during simulation.
11/16 Project 2 Updated Project 2 has been changed
so that you do not have to turn in a lab book - only the final
report.
10/16 Page 134 Missing Page 134 is missing from
some of your copies of the book. I will distribute copies of
the missing page in class and notify the bookstore.
10/15 Afternoon Section Moved
to Neuberger According to the evaluations
most students preferred Neuberger Room 11 to Cinema 92 as do
I, so the afternoon section will meet in this room from now on.
10/15 Staple Homework, Please A number of you turned
in your homework 1 with dog-ears. Please staple your homework.
10/15 vargs@ee Please contact me if
this is your email address. I still haven't received your code
and name.
10/7 X-Windows Client for
Windows 95/98/NT X-WinPro
and XWin32 are
programs that enable Windows 95/98/NT users that wish to work
on the projects remotely to access UNIX applications running
X-Windows. You will need a fast connection (better than 128 kbps)
to use this to work on the project remotely. It is up to you
to figure out how to install and configure it.
10/7 Homework 2 Propagation
Delays The supplemental problems
for homework 2 ask you to write down the propagation delays.
You should be able to do this from examining the data sheets,
but you will still receive full credit even if you don't answer
this part, since I didn't cover it in Wednesday's lecture.
10/7 FAB Off-hours Key Please talk to Michelle
in the PCAT ECE office to get a key that will give you off-hours
access to FAB during the evenings and weekends. You will need
to write a check for $15 as a deposit for the key. Do this soon
because it may take up to 2 weeks to process.
10/7 HW Solutions Online
Soon Homework solutions will
be put online soon and will not be put on reserve in the library,
contrary to what the syllabus says.
10/7 Cell Phone/Pager Policy Please put your cell
phones and pagers on vibrate during lectures so that it does
not disturb other students. You are welcome to answer phone calls
and pages during lecture, but please step out of the room to
talk. During exams, please turn off your cell phones.
10/5 6 Digit Code Email me a unique 6 digit
code. You will use this on exams to identify yourself and I will
use it to identify you when I post the grades to the web site.
Please do not use your name or a label that is
very similar to your name.
10/5 The Sun UNIX Lab Location The lab is located in
the Fourth Avenue Building, FAB 60-19.
10/3 Homework Load Please write how long
it takes you to do each homework on the homework assignment.
I will use this in a another quarter to adjust the homework load.
10/3 Evening Classes Those of you attending
the day section are welcome to attend the evening lecture instead.
The evening lectures tend to be shorter due to fewer questions
and the classroom is better designed. The evening classes are
located in the Capital Center at the corner of 185th and Walker
Road in Beaverton. The classroom is room 1542.
10/1 Lecture Videos Videos of the lectures
given by Dr. Hall are available in the library. You are encouraged
to watch the lecture given by Dr. Hall if you miss class.
9/29 Computer accounts ready. You may pick them up
at SB2 139, SB2 169, PCAT 160, or FAB 60-02.
9/29 Book pages missing.
The copies of the book that were made in the bookstore are missing
two pages (44 & 45). Those in the afternoon section can pick
up the missing pages from the bookstore. I'll bring extra copies
to those of you in the night section.
