How do I get a WebCT account?

  • Students: In order to be issued a WebCT ID, you will first need to sign up for an ODIN account (information on this process can be found below). Once you have an account and have registered for a course that uses WebCT, you will automatically be issued a WebCT ID and password that will allow you to access your course materials. Your WebCT ID is the same as your ODIN account username and your password is the last four digits of your PSU ID number (NOT your ODIN password).
     
  • Non-PSU Students: Your instructor will assign you a special WebCT ID and password. If you have not received this information, please contact your instructor as soon as possible.
     
  • Faculty: After submitting your request for a WebCT course, you will be notified via email with the information you will need to access your course.

 

Do I need an Odin account to login to WebCT?

For PSU students, WebCT access is linked to your registration records so you will need an Odin account to access WebCT.

Creating an Odin Account

In order to access WebCT, you will need to sign up for an Odin account. Portland State University has an automatic account creation system that you may access by logging on to: https://www.account.pdx.edu/

This process will request you to follow 4 steps in order to activate your account. PLEASE NOTE: You will only follow steps 1-3 in the automatic account creation system. Step 4 must be accomplished by following the directions below.

Step 4: You must now verify your identity with an Account Authorization Person at Portland State University in order to have your account activated. You may do this by fax or email.

By Fax:

  • Please fax a photocopy of a valid photo ID to: (503)725-3360
  • Wait ½ hour after the fax and call: (503)725-4357 to obtain your password.

By Email:

  • Please email a copy of a valid photo ID to: help@pdx.edu
    • If you choose this option, you should scan your photo ID, then attach the scanned image file (in .jpg or .gif format) to an email. If you have trouble with this process, call the Help Desk at (503)725-HELP.
  • Wait ½ hour after the email and call: (503)725-4357 to obtain your password.

Non-PSU students should contact the instructor for access to WebCT. The instructor will email your name and the course id to the PSU WebCT administrator (webct@pdx.edu) authorizing you to be entered as a student in the WebCT course.

How do I login to my class?

  1. Open a WebCT-supported web browser (for a list of these, click here).
  2. Go to http://www.webct.pdx.edu and enter your WebCT ID and password in the "Online Course Login" section in the upper righthand corner of the page. (Remember: Your WebCT ID will be the same as your ODIN account username and your password is the last four digits of your PSU ID number.)
  3. This brings you to your "myWebCT" page. The WebCT courses you are registered for will be listed on the left side of the myWebCT screen as hyperlinks. Access a particular WebCT course by clicking on the title of the course.

If you need to change your assigned WebCT password, click on the "Password Settings" link in the top right of the myWebCT page (more explicit instructions for this can be found here).

If you are having trouble with the initial login to WebCT, you should contact your instructor. The instructor will email your name, your WebCT ID, the last four digits of your Student ID Number, and the course ID to the PSU WebCT administrator (webct@pdx.edu) verifying that you are a student in the WebCT course.


Where can I get help using WebCT?

Once you are logged into your course, there is context-specific help available by clicking on the "Help" link in the menu bar that runs across the top of the page. No matter where you are in the course, you will get specific help for that area when you click on the "Help" link.
