Development of Networking Protocols for nodes equipped with Directional Antenna We are working on development of MAC and Network layer protocols for mobile nodes using directional antennas. Directional antennas can be used to create narrow beam in a specific direction and reducing interference in other directions. This capability promises increased network capacity and lower energy consumption. However, the challenge is in ensuring pairs of senders and receivers are "looking" at each other. Recently some authors have published simple protocols for sectored antennas. We are extending this work and are also looking at beamsteering approaches.
