May 2013: Reza Najafi successfully defended his PhD dissertation. Congratulations Reza!

April 2013: Dr. Moradkhani Organized the Land Data Assimilation session at "Terrestrial Water Cycle Observation and Modeling from Space" workshop in Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing. He also delivered the keynote at the workshop.

March 2013: Caleb DeChant passed the prospectus oral defense and advanced to PhD candidacy, Congratulations Caleb!

February 2013: Dr. Moradkhani was invited by the Chinese academy of science to deliver the keynote at the "Terrestrial Water Cycle Observation and Modeling from Space" conference in Beijing, China, April 26-30.

February 2013: Yueyue Qin joined the group as a visting master student from North China Electric Power Univeristy, Beijing, China, welcome to the group Yueyue!

January 2013: Dr. Moradkhani was invited as the chair of the technical committee of the AGU Chapman Conference on Seasonal to Interannual Hydroclimate Forecasts in Portland, Oregon, July 28-31.

December 2012: Dr. Moradkhani and his research group delivered several presentations at AGU fall meeting in San Francisco.

October 2012: Reza Najafi and Dr. Moradkhani delivered a presentation on extreme event analysis under climate change, at Northwest climate conference in Boise, Idaho.

October 2012: Dr. Moradkhani delivered a talk about Multivariate procedure for postprocessing of hydrologic forecast ensemble at HEPEX international workshop in China

September 2012: Hongxiang Yan joined our research group as a PhD student. Welcome Hongxiang to Portland and our research lab!

September 2012: Dr. Moradkhani Co-organized the 2nd international workshop on Operational data Assimilation in Incheon, South Korea, http://www.da-workshop.com/. He also delivered the keynote speech on recent advances in stat-of-the art of ensemble data assimilation.

October 2011: Marc Leisenring successfully defended his master thesis entitled "Implications of Hydrologic Data Assimilation in Improving Suspended Sediment Load Estimation in Lake Tahoe, California". Congratulations Marc!

October 2011: Dr. Moradkhani delivered two invited presentations at Operational River Flow and Water Supply Forecasting Workshop in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

October 2011: Dr. Moradkhani joined the editorial board of Water Resources Research as an associate editor.

October 2011: Dr. Moradkhani joined NOAA Modeling, Analysis, Predictions, and Projections (MAPP) Drought Task Force to help coordinate and enhance MAPP research activities aiming at achieving significant new advances in current capability to monitor and predict drought over North America.

July 2011: Andrew Halmstad successfully defended his master thesis entitled "Investigating Future Variation of Extreme Precipitation Events over the Willamette River Basin Using Dynamically Downscaled Climate Scenarios". Congratulations Andrew!

May 2011: Dr. Moradkhani was promoted to associate professor with early tenure.

May 2011: Caleb Dechant was announced the recipient of 2011-2012 Maseeh Fellowship. Congratulations Caleb!

May 2011: Dr. Moradkhani earned the distinction and designation of Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) credential which is recognized by theAmerican Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE)  Board of Trustees. Dr.  Moradkhani participated in a special Anniversary, Diplomate Induction ceremony  held by AAWRE at the 2011 EWRI World Water & Environmental Resources Congress in Palm Springs, CA, where he was recognized for his achievements.

April 2011: Dr. Moradkhani delivered an invited presentation at the Columbia River Forecast Group (CRFG), a collaborative group of operational forecasters aiming at improving the Hydrometeorologic Forecast in the Columbia River Basin. The title of his talk: "Advances in Hydrologic Forecasting, Data Assimilation and Uncertainty Assessment"

March 2011: Dr. Moradkhani delivered an invited presentation at the "Seasonal to two year forecasting workshop" at Salt Lake City, Colorado River Basin River Forcast Center (CBRFC). The title of his talk: "Longer-Lead Water-Supply Forecasts - Statistical Forecasting with Optimal Climate Predictor Selection".

March 2011: Dr. Moradkhani delivered an invited presentation at USGS, Oregon Water Center in Portland, Oregon. The title of his talk was:"The Pursuit of Uncertainty in Hydrologic Climate Change Impact Assessment".

January 2011: Dr. Moradkhani's proposal in collaboration with Agrosphere Research Institute (A German National Lab) to German Science Foundation (DFG) was recommended for total funding of $800K for the period of 2011-2015. Proposal title: "Process-based Modeling of Regional Water and Energy Fluxes Taking into Account Multi-sensor and Multi-scale Observation Patterns".


December 2010: Dr. Moradkhani's paper was announced as the highest cited paper in the last 5 years in the Journal of Advances in Water Resources entitled: "Dual State-Parameter Estimation of Hydrological Models using Ensemble Kalman Filter" co-authored by  Sorooshian S., Gupta, H.V., Houser, P, Advances in Water Resources, 28, 2,135-147, 2005.

December 2010: Dr. Moradkhani delivered an invited presentation at American Geophysical Union (AGU) fall meeting in San Francisco. Also, Reza Najafi, Caleb Dechant and Shahrbanou Madadgar presneted 4 posters on various topics.

November 2010: Caleb Dechant was admitted to PhD program. Caleb will continue his PhD studies with Dr. Moradkhani's water resources and remote sensing research group.

October 2010: Dr. Moradkhani was invited to "Modeling Advisory Committee" for the Water Utility Climate Alliance (WUCA). WUCA, in partnership with the NOAA RISA (regional integrated science and assessments) program is embarking on a pilot project with four cities - SF, Seattle, New York, and Tampa Bay - to assess the possible consequences of climate change on water supply and possibly on stormwater/wastewater.

August 2010: Dr. Moradkhani was invited for the keynote speech on “Advances in Hydrologic Data Assimilation and Uncertainty Analysis” at the 2010 American Geophysical Union in San Francisco.

August 2010: Dr. Moradkhani was invited for the keynote speech at the international hydrologic DA workshop in Delft, Netherlands, Nov 1-3, 2010.

August 2010: Dr. Moradkhani was invited as part of Modeling Advisory Committee of the Water Utility Climate Alliance (WUCA). WUCA, in partnership with the NOAA RISA (regional integrated science and assessments) program is embarking on a pilot project with four cities - San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Tampa Bay - to assess the possible consequences of climate change on water supply.

August 2010: Our NSF WSC 5-year proposal was recommended for funding. This project is in collaboration with Oregon State University and University of Oregon.

July 2010: The Presentation of Mark Parrish was announced as the outstating student paper at the AGU 2009 Fall meeting in San Francisco. The title of the presentation was: "A New Approach in Multi-Model Hydrologic Forecasting: Merging The Data Assimilation With Bayesian Model Averaging".

May 2010: Dr. Moradkhani delivered three presentations at the EWRI annual meeting in Rhode Island.

May 2010: Caleb Dechant presented at EGU annual meeting in Vienna, Austria.

March 2010: Dr. Moradkhani was invited to Agrosphere Research Institute in Juelich, Germany for a presenattion and also completing a Journal paper entitled "Hydraulic Parameter Estimation by Remotely-sensed top Soil Moisture Observations with the Particle Filter" submitted to Journal of Hydrology.

May 20, 2008: Dr. Moradkhani was elected the associate editor of the ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering. His appointment will start July 1, 2008.

EWRI Congress - Honolulu, Hawaii
Dr. Moradkhani co-organized a congress track on “Stochastic and Probabilistic Approaches for Analyzing Complex Water Resources Systems.” He also presented three papers in various sessions.

May 14, 2008: Dr. Moradkhani was elected as the chair of the technical committee on "Probabilistic Approaches in Hydrologic and Water Resources Systems" of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI).

April 13–18, 2008:
European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly (Vienna, Austria) Dr. Moradkhani will be presenting three papers in various sessions.

December 10-14, 2007 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting Dr. Moradkhani co-organized a session on “From Hydroclimatic Variability to Uncertain Hydrologic Prediction and Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources Management.” He also presented an invited talk.
