Dr. Moradkhani holds BS (UT, 1991), MS (IUST, 1994), and PhD (UCI, 2005), all first rank in civil and environmental engineering specializing in hydrology, hydraulics and water resources systems. He has been on the faculty of the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Portland State University (PSU) since September 2006. Prior to joining PSU, he was a postdoctoral scholar and then research scientist (January 2005- to August 2006) at the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Moradkhani has over 20 years of professional engineering experience in analysis, design and management of variety of large scale water resources systems. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in, Watershed Hydrology and Remote Sensing, Advanced Methods in Hydrosystems Analysis, Risk Analysis in Environmental Systems, Probabilistic and Statistical Approaches in Hydrology, Surface Water Hydrology, Computer Applications in Water Resources Systems, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Hydraulics and Water Resources Egineering.

Dr. Moradkhani is currently on the editorial board of AGU Water Resources Research, ASCE journal of Hydrologic Engineering and also the international Editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Science and Technology, Transaction of civil engineering.  He has served as the chair of the “Risk and Uncertainty in Water Resources Systems” committee at the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI). He is also the watershed council board member of the EWRI. In May 2011, Dr. Moradkhani earned the distinction of Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) recognized and designated by the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE) Board of Trustees. He is a member of Surface Water Hydrology Committee, and Remote Sensing Committee of the AGU Hydrology Section. He is the PSU faculty representative for the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science (CUHASI) which has over 120 member universities. Since joining PSU, Dr. Moradkhani has been the Principle Investigator and Co-PI of several federal and international projects from variety of sources including NSF, NOAA, NASA, USDA, OTREC and DFG (German Science Foundation).
