Inviscid Flow Past a Cylinder

This animation depicts the motion of fluid particle for flow of an inviscid fluid past an infinitely long cylinder The idea for this animation came from Section 7.10 of Advanced Engineering Mathematics with Mathematica and MATLAB, R. Malek-Madani, 1998 Addison-Wesley Longman, ISBN 0-201-59881-7 (volume 1).

The fluid blobs start out as circles. As they are convected downstream the blobs distort. The red blobs farthest from the cylinder axis and move with higher velocity than the yellow blobs closest to the cylinder axis.

The AVI file is 6.4 MBytes, so be patient with the download.
