Introduction to Portland
Chinese Friendship Association


The Portland Chinese Friendship Association, incorperated in the State of Oregon, is the only organization representing thousands of mainland-born Chinese professionals and families who work and live in the metropolitan Porland area. It has a history of over 5 years of existence. The membership has grown from an organization of a few families into an Organization to connect more than a thousand of Chinese families in the Portland Metro Area.

The association is a non-profitable and non-political organization. Its objectives include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. To provide opportunities for Chinese to participate in community-related activities around the metro area;
  2. To enhance the cultural diversity in Oregon, especially in Portland;
  3. To promote a closer relationship between Oregon and Chinese provinces.

Since its incorporating in 1991, the association has organized many different activities to serve the Chinese community in metro Portland, among them are:

  1. Seminars: on taxation, immigration, real estate, insurance, investment, retirements;
  2. Socials: Chinese New Year banquets, pot lucks, picnics;
  3. Cultural: Chinese Movies, Chinese video rentals, dance parties;
  4. Sport: Cheering Chinese Basketball Game.
  5. China-related: Meeting with Chinese journalists, visitors and celebrities;
  6. Others: collaborating with other organizations; communicating with the city, state and federal offices; interacting with political candidates and figures; co-sponsoring community events.

The association has close working relationship with many organizations, including:

  1. Northwest China Council
  2. Chinese Student and Scholar Association at Portland State University and several other universities and colleges in metropolitan Portland area.
  3. Taiwan Friendship Association in Portland,
  4. Oregon Taiwan Trade Association.

The association also edits its membership directory, advertising for different services to the Chinese Community.

The association actively participates the community activities, such as development of Chinatown, Chinese garden, Asian week.
