IEEE Power Electronics Society
Fifth Workshop on Computers in Power Electronics

Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, USA

Parts of this page are stil under construction, but the Workshop Program is not likely to change much (if at all). You can check it out by clicking on: Workshop Program. A short description of directions and accomodations at PSU is included in the program, and is repeated here for convenience.

DIRECTIONS TO PSU AND ACCOMODATIONS

The site of the workshop is Smith Memorial Center on the campus of PSU, which is in downtown Portland. The enclosed maps show the downtown area, PSU campus and approaches to PSU. From Portland International Airport you can:

For participants staying at the Red Lion Inn a free shuttle service is provided by the Inn. Alternatively, coming by car from the airport take Airport Way to I-205 South, then I-84 West which takes you to I-5 South. Stay in the left lanes of I-5 which takes you over the Marquam bridge and on to I-405. Immediately after the bridge take either the 4th Ave or 6th Ave exits, or even the 12th Ave exit. PSU is a short distance away from the exits. For details see maps on the reverse of the PSU campus map that came with the registration packet and is reproduced here as well. If you prefer to do your transportation planing right here on the web, you owe it to yourself to check out the PSU Transportation and Parking - it's everything you ever wanted to know about it!

Those participants using on-campus housing will be staying at the Ondine, which is located on 6th Ave between College and Hall Streets. Check-in time is between 2 PM and 7 PM, and check-out time is 11 AM.

The banquet will be held on Tuesday, August 13 on a river boat cruising the Willamette river. The boarding time is 18:30 at Riverplace on the riverfront between Marquam and Hawthorne bridges (see map).

You can also access some basic documents, such as call for papers (too late for that!) and registration forms. For printing purposes, you may want to download postscript versions:

Call For Papers

The 5th IEEE Power Electronics Society Workshop on Computers in Power Electronics is planned for August 11-14, 1996, on the campus of Portland State University (PSU), Portland, Oregon. Although computer related issues are discussed at conferences dedicated to power electronics, the details, problems, and solutions surrounding these issues are often omitted or mentioned only in passing. The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for the discussion of these issues.

A list of relevant topics includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Workshop attendees should be willing to participate actively at the workshop. The workshop differs from a conference in that the specific focus allows more detailed presentations and discussions. Demonstrations of software are particularly encouraged. A period of time will be set aside specifically for these demonstrations.

The PSU campus is located in downtown Portland and easily accessed from Portland International Airport.

Important deadlines:

Please submit three copies of an extended digest of not more than 4 pages with a cover page containing the title of the paper, names of authors, affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address, if available, to the Workshop Chair:

Re: meeting announcement and RFP for 1998 workshop sites

The Technical Committee on Computers in Power Electronics is interested in reviewing proposals for hosting a 1998 workshop on computers in power electronics, with a format similar to our previous successful workshops. That is, this workshop series, established in 1988, has been held on university campuses, and has utilized various university facilities including but not limited to local computing resources.

At this point, informal proposals or statements of intent may be submitted to
