CS 200 - Assignment #1

This assignment is due (hard copy, do not email) at the begining of class on 10/1.

Part 1
Prove that/Demonstrate how repeated division by 5 will convert an arbitrary decimal number into its pentimal representation.

Part 2
Explain why hexadecimal and octal are used to express binary values. I.e. "Why not just use the raw binary values?" and "Why not base-6 or base-9?"

note: for question 2.8 compute the binary equivalent so that total error < .01
