Description
This course offers a closer look of some specialized Java topics.
The course is suitable to programmers and technical
managers and is intended for students who are already familiar
with the Java programming language and its environment
(for example, through PSU/OCATE course CS510PJ).
Topics covered in the course include: graphics and multimedia,
networking and client-server construction, beans use and
implementation, jdbc, threads, and event delegation.
There is no textbook. Students will be required to consult
appropriate on-line material. Assessement will be based on
midterm and final exams and a few programming assignments.
This course is a followup of CS510PJ, Programming in
Java, offered in the winter term.
Goal
The student who successfully completes this course should:
have a solid understanding of the topics presented
in the lectures, be able to apply them to practical
situations, and comfortably navigate the large amount
of resources available on line.
Prerequisites
Ability to program fluently in Java.
Good understanding of the AWT.
Familiarity with HTML and the Web.
Course materials
Grading
There will be midterm and final exams and frequent assignments.
Class participation and agreed upon independent projects
can be signficant components of the grade.
