This course is a continuation of the Information Theory course I teach every fall in which I cover source and channel coding for variables with discrete values (chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8 of Cover and Thomas' text). In the second course I start with continuous valued variables, coding for continuous channels, and rate distortion theory (chapters 9, 10, 11, and 13 of the text). In the remaining time, I cover additional material selected in consultation with the class. Students who have previously done well in a first information theory course will be prepared for Information Theory II.
